How to Submit Your Website to Google (Step by Step)

Last updated October 21, 2026

To submit your website to Google, add it to Google Search Console, prove you own it, and submit your sitemap. This takes about ten minutes and costs nothing. Google usually finds sites on its own, but submitting shows you any problems it hits and can speed up discovery. No one can guarantee when pages appear or how they rank.

What do I need before I start?

You need a free Google account and the web address of your site. If your site has a sitemap, which is a list of its pages, you will also need its address. Most sites keep it at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml, so open that address in your browser to check that it loads.

How do I add my website to Google Search Console?

  1. Go to search.google.com/search-console and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Choose Add a website, or Add property if you already use Search Console.
  3. Pick URL prefix and type your full web address, starting with https://. This is the simplest option for most small sites.
  4. Select Continue. Google then asks you to prove that you own the site.

How do I prove I own my website?

Google offers several ways to verify ownership. Use the one that matches how your site is built.

After you choose a method, select Verify. When you see Ownership verified, select Go to property.

How do I submit my sitemap to Google?

  1. In the left menu of your property, open Sitemaps.
  2. Under Add a new sitemap, type sitemap.xml after your site address, or paste the full sitemap address.
  3. Select Submit.
  4. Check the Status column. Success means Google read the file. A new submission can briefly show Couldn't fetch, which often clears by itself. If it stays, make sure the sitemap opens in your browser and is not blocked in your robots.txt file.

A sitemap is optional for small sites, but it is the easiest way to show Google every page you want found.

How do I ask Google to look at one page?

Use the URL Inspection tool at the top of Search Console. Paste a page address, wait for the result, and select Request indexing. This is useful for a new or updated page. It asks Google to look, and it does not promise that the page will be listed.

Do I have to submit my website to Google?

No. Google usually finds websites on its own by following links from other sites. Submitting gives you a free report of any problems Google runs into and can speed up discovery, which is why we recommend it.

How long does it take for my website to show up on Google?

It can take from a few days to a few weeks, and no service can promise a date. To check, search for site:yourdomain.com in Google, using your own address. If nothing appears after several weeks, open the Page indexing report in Search Console to see what Google says is holding your pages back.

Does Google guarantee a ranking if I submit my site?

No. Submitting only helps the search engine find your pages. Where they rank depends on many other things, such as the quality of your content and links from other sites. SEORegistration.com cannot guarantee any ranking, traffic, or results.
